Magic Susan #1 By Melody Kim
Once upon a time, there was a magician named Susan who loved magic. She spent her time daydreaming about going to America’s Got Talent and seeing Simon pressing the golden button after she performs her amazing magic tricks. But her parents did not know how talented she was. They did not like magic. They never let her do magic and if she did only one magic trick, they would ground her for two weeks! So, Susan only does it in the hallway at her school, showing tricks to her friends. Susan’s grandmother teaches her magic and loves magic, but Susan’s parents did not know that. One day, she ran as fast as she could after school . She showed every person she could see a magic trick, but Susan’s parents saw her and grounded her for a month because she did more than one magic trick! While she was grounded, Susan noticed a weird opening in her room. She quietly stuffed herself in the opening and saw a big island shaped like a magic hat. As she kept going, she was on the island and when she hopped ten times, she saw the buildings around her disappear. Everything was magic! It was a dream come true! While Susan was exploring, she met a unicorn playing hide and seek. He asked her who she was and explained that he really was a rabbit who changed his appearance to play the
game. The unicorn said, “I never saw you here on the Island of Happy Magic. Wait, are you from the Island of Evil Magic?” “No,” Susan said. So Susan explained to the bunny where she was from and her whole story. After that, the unicorn said, “Well, I suppose you are breaking your parent’s no magic rule.” Susan and the unicorn, Matt, went to the hot dog store and Matt bought her a hot dog, and they became fast friends. The Island of Happy Magic never went to sleep or got dark. If she stayed any longer, a week would have passed. So even though she wanted to stay longer, Susan went back and made it home by midnight and she went to sleep before her parents knew she was even gone. When she woke up in the morning, she looked over where the weird opening was and it looked like the face of the devil. In the evening, even though it still looked like the devil, she crawled in but ended up on the Island of Evil Magic! There were bats flying around, but when she looked closer, they were actually marshmallows with angry faces flying around. People were turning other people around them into frogs. She saw people tending to graveyards like they were gardens but without sunlight. Susan thought, “That’s odd. All the things on the Island of Happy Magic are happy. So why am I seeing all of this?” Then, she remembered what Matt said– “I never say you on the Island of Happy Magic. Are you from the Island of EVIL MAGIC?!?!” Now, Susan was sure she was on the Island of Evil Magic. She tried to go back home, but felt a tug on her shirt. She looked and saw a big, scary, black BEAR – with a name tag that says “Mr. Fang”. Susan’s eyes got as big as pancakes. The big bear grunted and said, “ You’re not going anywhere,” and he dragged Susan to his office and gave her a paper that said in big fat letters, “WHY ARE YOU HERE?” and below, in very small writing it said, “Why would a kid like Susan come here?” Susan was silent for a whole ten minutes. She finally said, “Well….ummmm… I don’t know?” Then the bear roared, “SPIILLLLLL IIIITTTTT OOOOOUUUUTTTTTT!!!!!” Susan started to run as fast as she could away from Mr. Fang back to the devil shaped opening. He tried to follow her but she was too fast. Mr. Fang opened a jar full of poison gooey slime and threw it on the floor to try to stop her. All of a sudden she remembered a spell that her grandmother taught her. She knew that she was finally ready to try this spell for the first time. Susan closed her eyes and slowly and calmly said: I am trapped I want to go home Back to safety Next to my garden gnome I miss my house And even the door mouse Send me back to eat my roasted ham Hocus pocus, Alakazam! ******************************************************************************************************
When Susan opened her eyes, she was standing next to the pink garden gnome outside of her house. She yelled, “It worked, it worked!” and started jumping around. All of a sudden, she heard her mother scream, “WHY ARE YOU IN THE GARDEN!!! YOU’RE GROUNDED! YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO BE IN YOUR ROOM!” Susan quickly walked back to her room and once she was safely inside, she drew a picture of Matt. She was so tired, she fell asleep on the floor with her pencil in her hand. After a long nap, she woke up to find herself not in her room, but in a small warm cottage. She was all alone and started to explore her surroundings. She first found the common room with a stove in the middle and along the wall was a table with three magic wands on top. She picked up the wand closest to her, but it was very heavy and it fell out of her hand and dropped on her foot. “Ouch!” she said. She started thinking of a spell when picking up the second wand. “Hickory, pickery. Jiggle wiggle. Dorky, porky.” Her foot felt better even though it wasn’t easy to use that wand. The wand was too light. It weighed less than a pound and she was able to balance it on her little pinky finger. The last wand was just right. She played with it and tried many different spells until her arm grew tired. She sat down in the chair by the fireplace and it started massaging her, but it was too strong so she got up quickly. Next to it, was a second chair. When she sat, the massage was so light she felt like she was being tickled. She found one more chair, and when she sait in it, it was perfect. She sat and was massaged until she was ready to do something fun, like go swimming. Susan found some stairs that she walked down. At the bottom of the stairs she found big swimming pools. The first was too hot, the second was too cold and the last was the perfect temperature for her. While she was enjoying her swim, she heard some footsteps coming down the stairs. She was a little scared. She peeked out from under the water and found Matt and his two bunny parents staring down at her, standing next Susan’s grandmother. Susan and her grandmother looked at each other in surprise and they both started laughing with happiness because they were both in the Island of Happy Magic. Susan and her grandmother spent a nice afternoon with Matt and his parents and at the end of the day, they went back home together. Her grandmother told Susan’s parents that she taught Susan all of the magic that she knows and how important it is to them. Susan was able to tell them about her adventures and how magic saved her from Mr. Fang and his gooey poisonous slime. Susan’s parents decided to let her do one magic trick a week. They lived a long life with lots of magic and lived happily ever after. The end
